SOC Examinations
A SOC 2 examination evaluates a service organization's controls against the Trust Services Criteria: Security, Availability, Processing Integrity, Confidentiality, and Privacy. Stakeholders use SOC 2 reports for customer assurance, vendor risk reviews, and regulatory compliance evidence.
Type I vs. Type II
A Type II examination evaluates both the design and operating effectiveness of controls over a period, typically six months or more. It answers the harder question: did the controls actually work, consistently, over time?
Type II is the standard for enterprise procurement. Most customers and their security teams expect a Type II report because it demonstrates sustained operational discipline, not just a snapshot.
Typical timeline: 6+ month review period, then 4–8 weeks for the examination and report.
